Abagail Jackson
Life can change in an instant. What was normal or new can immediately transform into a new normal. Nowhere does this seem truer than for the warrior on a foreign battlefield, but for his family at home, the truth is even more real.
In 2003, Abagail Jackson was a nursing student, mother of two and wife of B.J., a soldier. In April, B.J.’s unit shipped out for what was to be a six-month deployment in Iraq. Thirty-nine days short of his return, the vehicle in which he was traveling hit a land mine and was subsequently attacked by Iraqi troops. The horror of the injuries he suffered changed not only his life but also the lives of Abagail and their children. Though he lost his legs on the battlefield, together with Abagail, they discovered a strength that neither could have known they possessed.
Eight years later, Abagail is mother to B.J.’s six children and partner in a journey that has inspired countless women and men across the country. Just as a soldier receives the orders that rule his life, Abagail has found herself in a role she never expected or intended. With a Psychology degree and a minor in Emergency Management and Disaster, a wisdom beyond her years, a positive mental attitude and sense of humor, Abagail is uniquely qualified to speak to the issues associated with life’s challenges.
Whether delivering a keynote address to a corporate gathering, sitting on a panel discussion at a university symposium, meeting with soldiers and their spouses or visiting a hospital, Abagail’s story is sure to entertain and inspire.
